To Serve With Love: For Home & Country

Celebrate Malaysia’s 62nd Merdeka with the Loka Made team this weekend at Johor #MeBooksNooks

It does takes two to tango

Lifelong creative partners and artpreneurs of Loka Made, founders Chong Fei Giap and Audrey Chew, had a whimsical dream of new way to depict Malaysia when it came to illustrating long standing iconic buildings with a breath of fresh air. Illustrator Fei Giap and designer Audrey met on the grounds of The One Academy and are alumni of the great art school. Fei Giap’s creations range from National Day advertising posters for Petronas and the local mega hit movie 'The Journey’ (Astro Shaw). Together with Audrey, the Loka Made team developed commercial visuals for brands in the likes of AmBank, Astro, KFC, Panasonic, Lexus and Toyota.

The duo have since grown in leaps and bounds from their first collaboration back in 2012 under the umbrella of Running Snail Studio and have chronicled their growth milestones in a Loka Made 96-pager hard cover art book featuring their masterpieces. Fei Giap who has just under 8,000 followers on Instagram, is in charge of the creative ideas and illustration of the brand whereas Audrey manages the marketing and sales department. Today, Loka Made has grown their band of designers, opened up shop in Subang and continuously to break new heritage protection frontiers through their art pieces and market them online and at tourists hotspots.

Old is gold

Fei Giap and Audrey traveled around the country capturing everyday landscape images as reference points for their original creations. Buildings, historic architectures, fields, street stalls, skyline and signages became the backdrop of Loka Made’s masterpieces. In line with the Mandarin pronunciation of their brand name, ‘Local Fantasy’, the lean team of Loka Made, are greatly inspired by Japanese Manga, a plethora of international animations, Makoto Shinkai and the latest emerging trends in the talented world of illustrators. Uniquely Malaysian in its stylisation and backstory of each curated piece, the Loka Made team works tirelessly to preserve its Malaysian roots with a golden mission of introducing Malaysia to the world from a standpoint unlike seen before.

Seeing beauty in every nook and corner

Everyday souvenir items are rehashed under the Loka Made research wings. Their working culture of discovering new alleyways and viewing points of the beautiful Malaysia are put to experiment in their pop-up greeting cards, magnetic puzzles, keychains and more as seen at their online store along with several brick and mortar shops. The cultural storytellers are relentless at re-assembling local elements of nooks and corners whilst adding in their own signature of fantasy and creative imagination of the 32-million populated nation of Malaysia. Animated movie, roadshows and new design dreams have Loka Made calendar buzzing with activities and it is no wonder why it is earmarked as Malaysia’s worthy cultural storytellers.
