“You make it look simple so it can’t be that hard - Please, please, PLEASE can you tell me how?”
- When I’m a Mummy Like You! by David O’Connell
May has rolled in, and we are edging closer and closer to one of the most important days that happens every year (hint: it has something to do with a character in this book!). We’re showing some extra love to all the mummies in the world, which is why our pick this month is all about celebrating the bond between mother and child and the love they have for each other. David O’Connell puts himself inside the shoes of a young girl in this delightful story about childlike amazement, love and parenting.
What is this book about?
In this gorgeously illustrated book, David O’Connell writes about a little girl who adores her mother and longs to be just like her. Through vignettes of their time together, we see the girl and her mother doing all sorts of things: cooking, shopping, gardening and even keeping fit! As they spend their days going on tiny adventures, the girl marvels at all the things her mother does. Though being a mother is anything but easy, it can be rewarding and fun—especially when you have a little one who makes any moment just a bit more special.
We love it because…
We all know how challenging a mother’s job can be, but this book shows all the wonderful things about motherhood that we as adults might overlook. The pastel colours, charming rhyme and sentimental value make When I’m a Mummy Like You a perfect gift for young ones (and the young at heart) who look up to the most important woman in their life.
