What an amazing Sunday spent as over 40 people comprising of parents and children gathered at Sen Master Academy for our monthly Me Books Townhall Event on Kids’ Self Defence 101 in collaboration with Sen Master Academy and Makchic on the 29th April 2018. We believe that self-defence is a good tool for shaping character and developing one’s confidence and assertiveness. Our inspiration for our Townhall this time round is the book "I Said No! A Kid-to-Kid Guide to Keeping Private Parts Private” by Zac and Kimberly King , which talks about setting healthy boundaries for their private parts that can be a daunting and awkward task for parents, counsellors and educators. Written from a kid's point of view, I Said No! makes this task a lot easier.
With the guidance of Master Khaldun Redza, Eric Khoo and the other instructors, the kids had a great time learning a few self-defence techniques and practicing a few chops and kicks, and even parents joined in the fun with their moves! Check out the pictures below!
Here are some handy tips we learnt during the workshop:
-It is not about knowing what technique to use but how to respond
-Self defence classes opens up options for you to act in the event of a dangerous situation.
-Self defence is a state of mind that comprises of concepts, strategies and plans
-It’s always important to keep yourself prepared for any situation: get fit physically, mentally and emotionally
-Make it a force of habit!
From all of us at Me Books, we hope everyone who came had a great educational time of not just learning about the values imparted but also bonding with their children. We would also like to specially thank Sen Master Academy for their time and invaluable knowledge!
At Me Books Asia, we believe in giving back to the community and have been conducting monthly events or “townhall” as we call it, ranging from speaking a child’s love language to our recent self-defence workshop. Come and join us for the next one!
