Arts & Craft by Me Books Asia: The Purrr-fect Hand Puppet
Hand puppets are the perfect storytelling tools to instil learning in children whilst having tons of fun! Pretend play with your child with the purrr-fect hand puppet for a more enticing experience with the book—They All Saw A Cat by Brendan Wenzel.
Hot Glue Gun
Follow these steps to make a hand puppet right meow!
Place your palm on a blank piece of paper. With a pencil, trace around your fingers to make the shape of the cat puppet.
Follow the line and draw another outline as a sewing guide with a 1 cm gap between both lines.
Add two triangles for the ears.
Draw dotted-lines with a marker on the inner line and cut out the shape following the outer line with a pair of scissors.
Fold a felt fabric into half. Make sure it covers the entire shape of the cat, and hold the paper in place with a few pins.
Cut out the felt fabric according to the shape.
Secure both fabrics with pins.
Then, start sewing along the lines. Remember to leave a 1cm gap from the edge of the puppet!
Once you’re done, flip the puppet inside out.
To make a collar, cut a piece of felt fabric and sew a bell onto the fabric.
With a hot glue, stick on the eyes, nose, ears, collar, whiskers, paws and anything you wish to include!
Voilà! A little cat that is going to bring you and your family a claw-some experience.
